ART TILES FROM CELEBRATED ARTIST J BORGES
From the colourful Northeast of Brazil, these incredible ceramic tiles are the work of recognized artist J Borges. Not only they are beautiful, but they have a wonderful story.
The pieces are called “The Arrival of the Prostitute in Heaven” (“A Chegada da Prostituta no Céu”) and “The Monster of the Desert” (“O Monstro do Sertão”).
They are a symbol of a local style of art – the “Cordel Literature” –, that represents scenes in hand carved woodblock prints.
Price is for the pair.
About the artist:
J Borges is one of Latin America’s most celebrated folk artists. His work has been exhibited around the world, including the MoMa, in NYC, where he was the subject of an article on The New York Times (and called a genius).
Also a poet, J Borges lives in the Northeast of Brazil and reflects in his art what he sees, the lives of the poor, the beautiful colours of his surroundings. At 83 years old, he still works and is the biggest symbol of “Cordel Literature”.
